Second Time Lucky for Pink Lady® Apple Marathon runner
With April 26th fast approaching, Jon Goodege, a professional valeter and detailer from Maidenhead, Berkshire, has generously agreed to run the Virgin Money London Marathon on our behalf for the second time, in support of Stroke Association. Jon is no stranger to participating in events which raise money for charity, and has previously supported Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
Once again, Jon will take part in the race whilst dressed in the infamous Pink Lady® apple costume…
“During the race it is amazing, last year it felt like a million people shouted ‘Go Pink Lady® Jon!’ It was my first marathon and now I can’t imagine doing a marathon without that support. High five-ing kids along the way is really special! I felt duty bound as an ambassador for Pink Lady® to engage with an extremely supportive audience and you really do get an immense feeling of joy from it. I guess it must be quite amusing seeing a grown man running in a giant apple costume! There are lots of weird and wonderful costumes in the marathon each year (including other types of fruit!) and I feel very honoured to be part of the fancy dress division of the race.”
“Last year, I was a bit worried about how I’d complete the race in the costume, however it is actually remarkably light and airy and there’s plenty of space for my 1.5l camelback drinks bladder which, for a 26 mile race, is something I couldn’t do without! Knowing we’re helping to raise vital funds for Stroke Association makes it worthwhile all the more. This year I am also taking part in UK Ironman so running in the costume is great preparation.”
In preparation for the ‘big day’, Jon likes to combine running and cycling as part of his training regime and he enjoys running around Eaton Dorney Olympic rowing lake, performing several laps whilst listening to his favourite tunes on his iPod for motivation.
However, with Jon’s enthusiasm for running in the Pink Lady® costume, we are sure he has all the motivation he needs to cross that finish line on Sunday 26th April!
