Healthy Fruit Snacks
A lunchbox full of healthy food is important, but it’s not always easy to come up with fresh ideas every day. Thankfully, we’ve got lots of recipes for healthy snack ideas that you can make at home quickly and easily.
Healthy Fruit Snacks for Lunchboxes
What makes a good fruit snack to send your kids to school with? For us, it’s simple – just pick up an apple from the fruit bowl. What’s better than the refreshing crunch of a Pink Lady®? It’s the perfect snack for any lunchbox.
In fact, to highlight how good a Pink Lady® apple is for snacking, we’ve just won the Healthy Food Guide award for the Sweet Snack category. Healthy Food Guide said: “This consistently good apple variety is the HFG go-to choice when we’re snacking on fresh fruit – it’s to do with the natural sweetness and crunch that can be relied on to the last bite.”
However, we appreciate that sometimes our children want something with a little bit more excitement and so do we! So, here are some of our favourite healthy recipes for back to school snacks that we’re sure your kids will love.
Honey-Dried Apple Crisps
Making your own fruit crisps is easy to do and incredibly tasty. These moreish apple crisps are the perfect healthy fruit snack for kids, much better for them than opening up another bag of salty crisps.
What’s more, you can make up several portions of this healthy apple snack in as little as half an hour.
Flapjacks are one of the best snacks for school lunches that you can get the kids involved in making with you. Super easy and fun to make, you can try all sorts of combinations from week to week.
In this recipe, we’ve added Pink Lady® apples to a classic flapjack recipe to give it a fruity sweetness that kids will love.
Apple & Sausage Filo Rolls
This one is more of a filling school lunch rather than a back to school snack, but you’ve got to shake up the same old sandwich routine from time to time too. And what better way to do so than with a proper homemade sausage roll with a good quality pork and apple filling? Your kids will be the envy of the playground.
Apple Oaty Crumble Muffins
You could send the kids to school with these muffins for their breakfast or as part of the healthy lunchbox snacks for eating throughout the day. These filling muffins will keep them going all day and with the delicious orange and buttermilk flavour, you’ll be making this recipe time and time again.
On-the-go snack attack
When you’ve been rushing round all day, from meeting to meeting, personal admin and trying to catch up with friends, that’s when we’re most likely to reach for something naughty and not so healthy. Here are some of our flavoursome snacks that you can prepare earlier and take with you when you’re out and about.
Apple, Raspberry and Almond Energy Bars
Making a large batch of these energy bars is quick and easy, so you will have enough for a full week’s worth of healthy lunchbox snacks in less than an hour’s time. Not only that, but the apple and raspberry flavour is so good, you will be scurrying a few away in your own lunchbox too.
Crunchy Granola Applewiches
This recipe is a great apple and peanut butter snack that is both healthy and delicious. So easy to assemble and your friends and work colleagues will definitely want to share with you.
Pink Lady® Crostini with Cheddar, Honey and Walnut
This recipe might sound indulgent, but at its heart it couldn’t be simpler. All you need is some toasted baguette slices topped with chunks of cheddar cheese and Pink Lady apples.
You could even stop there if you’re a fan of the tried and tested cheese and apple combo, or for the complete snack, finish them off with walnuts and a drizzle of honey.
Apple Pie Marshmallows
If you’re feeling adventurous, try creating these irresistible apple pie marshmallows. They’ll need time to set overnight, but they’ll be worth the wait for tomorrow’s snack.
