Mari takes on the Pink Lady® London Marathon challenge
Running enthusiast, Mari Mceleney, is preparing for a run with a difference in the weeks before the London Marathon. After hearing that Pink Lady® were looking for people to run the marathon dressed up as an apple for the Stroke Association, Mari was keen to apply.
As a part-time cardiac specialist nurse as well as Mum to a seven and nine year old Mari leads a busy life but still finds time to run regularly saying, “I have been running regularly for about six years and have completed many half marathons as well as six full marathons and one ultra marathon.”
“In the last year I have been working extra hours on the acute stroke ward and it's this work (as well as my family history of both grandparents suffering strokes) that made me want to do something for the stroke association. Stroke is debilitating but with the right treatment and plenty of patience many people recover sufficiently to experience a good quality of life.”
Mari admits marathon training is tough but reveals that a recent introduction to trail running has made the long runs enjoyable - mainly trying to find her way home! She is currently training with the strava app and is sticking to healthy eating habits, although she admits it’s a challenge trying to limit her sweet tooth options.
After years of fundraising Mari’s friends and family are well used to her raising money for charity and she has a great support system behind her so we are sure she has all the motivation needed to cross the finish line as a Pink Lady®!
