An apple salad can be as simple as throwing together a super quick coleslaw or it can be a filling meal by itself. The important thing to consider is picking the right apples to make your salad with.

Whether it’s a light lunch on its own or a dinnertime salad to go with your main dish, Pink Lady® apples provide the perfect sweet crunch that you’re looking for in an apple salad. Not only that, but we also don’t rush the blush, so our delightful pink colour really shines through to help your food look and taste amazing.

Why Put Apples in a Salad?

Apples provide a perfect sweet crunch that offers a great contrast to leafy salads. If you need to give your salad a punch of flavour, you can do so simply by chopping up a Pink Lady® apple.

Also, apples contain important vitamins and minerals such as vitamin K, potassium and copper so by incorporating them into a salad, you’ll reap the health benefits too.

What Ingredients go with an Apple Salad?

The number one ingredient that you might associate with an apple salad is the walnut. Made famous in the Waldorf salad – a fruit and nut salad that almost always contains apples and walnuts. There’s many different variations on the classic Waldorf salad, and you can try a Pink Lady® version in our Apple and Walnut Salad with Chicken and Strawberries.

If walnuts aren’t your thing, goats cheese, feta cheese, chicken and grains such as rice, quinoa and couscous all work brilliantly with apples in a salad. Some of which we’ve picked as part of our favourite apple salad recipes, which you can see below.

Apple & Moroccan Giant Couscous Salad

Whether you like couscous or not, have you ever tried giant couscous? There’s a lot more flavour to it, slightly nutty in taste with a chewy texture. Perfect for Moroccan style food, such as this delicious salad with a healthy North African style dressing.

Chicken and Apple Salad

While all of our salads up until now have made use of raw Pink Lady® apples, this filling salad of chicken, green beans and tomatoes has griddled Pink Lady® apples instead. By cooking your apples, you will intensify the sweetness and soften the texture.

This salad is brought together with fresh coriander, zesty lime juice and a tablespoon of honey to provide a satisfying salad good enough for a main course in its own right.
