Almost 6,500 images were entered by photographers from 56 countries in the hope of seizing the crown at this year’s Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year Award. The wait is finally over, as the winning shot was unveiled on Wednesday 6th May.

An arresting image of a street food vendor, taken by Australian photographer David Griffen in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was voted overall winner by the panel of expert judges.

The winner of the Pink Lady® Apple A Day category was Cath Lowe who produced this beautiful shot of a young cricketer. Cath said of her image: “This was shot in mid-winter in light rain. I had the idea of how I wanted the apple to look, and then had to bribe my nine-year-old to don cricket whites and be my model.”

Lisa Barber - Garlic

An awards evening was held at the Mall Galleries in London to announce and celebrate the winning shots, hosted by food writer Jay Rayner, who also acted as chairman of the judging panel. Describing the winning photograph, Jay Rayner said: “The composition is fantastic. The billowing of the smoke from the smoker on one side. The billowing of the smoke from the guy’s cigarette on the other.”

Other photographs crowned winners of the awards’ 16 categories included Pinot Noir being pressed, a small fish entangled in the tentacles of a cuttlefish and a gaggle of geese on a Dorset farm.
