Earlier this year, we were thrilled to offer the opportunity for two lucky Pink Lady® fans to win a weekend getaway to Venice with £500 spending money for our special Valentine’s Day prize draw. More than 16,000 entered the competition, but only one special fan won the chance to visit the iconic destination often nicknamed “The Floating City”.

The winner of the competition was Charlotte Milne, who took her partner Duncan. They landed at Venice Marco Polo airport and made their way to the Hotel Excelsior, a historic, luxury 5-star hotel located in a small oasis in Lido, a mere 15-minute water shuttle ride away from the bustling city of Venice. Their luxurious room had a balcony overlooking the water with Venice as the backdrop, waiting to be explored. Once settled, Charlotte and her partner walked along the meandering streets of Venice, crossing its quaint bridges which stitch the city together.

They enjoyed a romantic night-time cruise along the Grand Canal, which saw Charlotte and Duncan weave through the city and fall in love with the 14th century gothic architecture. Charlotte and her partner explored famous landmarks like the Rialto Bridge, which has stood for more than 400 years; at night the bridge illuminates, setting itself up for a perfect photo opportunity.

During the day, the market place, located at the southern bank of Rialto, comes to life with stalls neatly stacked under tents bearing fresh fruit, veg and the fish vendor’s catch of the day. They hopped on boats and gondolas, seeing the enchanting city from Venice’s canals. Charlotte and her partner ate Italian classics of ciabatta loaded with cured meats, chutneys and figs. They undoubtedly indulged in a couple of pasta dishes too!

On the third day, the Venice marathon took place, coinciding with Alto Acqua, a flooding that has occurred for centuries. Like true Venetian locals, the pair popped on their wellies and rain coats to watch the 8,000 marathon runners cross the finishing line. They even found a moment to visit Piazza San Marco and its large archways and marble flooring.

Charlotte and Duncan had the most amazing time during their three-day stay in Venice. We are delighted to have been able to provide them both with this unforgettable experience. We hope they think of their adventure whenever they buy Pink Lady® apples!
