Jon takes on the marathon for fourth year in a row
Running a marathon is a challenge many people would be daunted by, but Jon Goodege is undeterred. This year he will be tackling the Virgin Money London Marathon for the fourth time, taking the challenge one step further by completing the course dressed as a Pink Lady® apple.
This isn’t the first time that Jon has donned a Pink Lady® apple suit to complete the 26.2 mile course, running on behalf of Pink Lady® for the past three years. He has previously raised money for Stroke Association, and will this year be raising funds for Action Against Hunger.
Jon said: “Each year I’ve done the marathon, I’ve beaten my previous year’s time, so I’m really pushing myself when it comes to my training to try and get a PB. The first marathon I did in 2014 took me 5 hours, and I got down to 4:01 last year, so I’m hoping to cross the finish line in under 3 hours 45 minutes this year.
“My training is going exceptionally well and I’m aiming for 8-minute miles on race day. It’s a big challenge, but I’m not afraid to push myself! I’ve done a couple of 20 mile events and a half marathon to gear up for the big day, as well as a few shorter test runs in my apple costume to get used to it. Determined is an understatement!
“There’s always such an amazing atmosphere at the London Marathon, which is what keeps me coming back every year! Especially running in the apple costume, you get some great reactions and there are always people calling out your name and spurring you on."
