[Overall winner: ‘Praying with food’, Noor Ahmed Gelal]

This is the seventh year we have been the headline sponsor of the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year Awards and this year was undoubtedly its biggest yet! The competition was open to the professional and amateur, the old and young, to celebrate the very best in food photography and film from around the world. This year, there were 8,000 images entered from 60 countries, with the winner, Noor Ahmed Gelal, travelling all the way from Bangladesh to be at the prestigious awards.

The finalists were invited to a magnificent Champagne Taittinger reception at the world-renowned Mall Galleries in London, where the awards were presented by the legendary chef and Bake-Off judge, Prue Leith, amongst other special guests. Andy Macdonald, Managing Director of Pink Lady® UK, presented Gelal with a cheque for £5,000. The Mall Galleries then held a five-day exhibition, showcasing the finalists’ photographs.

To celebrate our involvement in this year’s awards, we hosted a Pink Lady® Facebook Live which was presented by Caroline Kenyon, founder of the awards and David Loftus, award- winning photographer and head judge of the awards and our Pink Lady® Snaps Instagram competition. The pair discussed the winning images from the #PinkLadySnaps competition and answered questions posted by Facebook viewers.

Caroline and David also took part in a podcast with Olive Magazine, alongside Laura Rowe, Editor of Olive Magazine and George Reynolds, food writer at Eater London, to talk about why we’re all so obsessed with food, how far food photography has evolved and whether social media is a positive place for foodies.

To wrap things up we invited 20 social influencers to the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year exhibition at the Mall Galleries, to enjoy a guided tour by Caroline, complete with Pink Lady® canapes and Taittinger – what a treat!

The Pink Lady® Snaps competition will open once again later in the year, so watch this space to find out how you can enter.
